Case Studies of how I've created competitive advantage
Case Study 1 - Rebuilding a Tourism Economy After COVID-19
Data Integration & Strategic Insights for Regional Recovery (Santander, Colombia)

Our Challenge
When COVID-19 hit, Santander’s tourism sector collapsed - but so did the ability to understand why.
Data was scattered across national, regional, and municipal systems, each using different formats, time periods, and definitions.
Without a unified picture, decision-makers were planning in the dark.
My Role
Led a complete reconstruction of the region’s tourism dataset, consolidating information from multiple government sources into the first integrated post-COVID tourism intelligence model.
-
Gathered, cleaned, and validated thousands of data points using Excel, SQL-style operations, and statistical quality checks.
-
Mapped pre- and post-pandemic tourism behaviour to identify structural shifts.
-
Created clear visual dashboards to translate complex numbers into insights.
-
Identified the “Tourism Development Nuclei”- the destinations that drive the region’s economic engine.
-
Delivered a strategic report with actionable recommendations for accelerating recovery.
-
Supported government directors by turning technical data into simple visuals for briefings and public presentations.
Competitive Advantage
-
First unified tourism dataset for Santander after COVID-19.
-
Revealed the role of tourism nuclei, allowing targeted investment and recovery planning.
-
Improved public-sector decision-making, replacing fragmented information with a clear, evidence-based strategy
Case Study 2 - Building the Socioeconomic Baseline for a Major Infrastructure Project
Data Cleaning, Urban Analysis & Decision Support for Road Infrastructure Planning

Our Challenge
For the Bucaramanga road project, planners needed an accurate socio-economic baseline for the impact area.
The problem: the available data was outdated, inconsistent, and stored across multiple institutions with little standardisation.
My Role
I developed a complete socioeconomic intelligence model for the impact zone:
-
Collected datasets from government agencies, business registries, and local institutions.
-
Cleaned, merged, and validated the information - removing duplicates, correcting inconsistencies, and creating a single reliable dataset.
-
Built indicators and dashboards analysing demographics, micro-enterprise structure, and commercial activity.
-
Conducted trend analysis on urban renewal to understand land-use and commercial transformations.
-
Produced a detailed analytical report that synthesised the full picture for project planners and engineers.
Competitive Advantage
-
Reduced uncertainty by providing a reliable, validated baseline for the design phase.
-
Enabled better engineering decisions through clear demographic and commercial insights.
-
Created a replicable methodology now used as a model for similar infrastructure studies.
Case Study 3 - Identifying Growth Opportunities in the Agro-industrial Sector
Sector Intelligence & Value-Added Product Analysis for Regional Development

Our Challenge
Santander’s agro-industrial sector had strong potential but lacked a consolidated understanding of where growth could occur.
Data on crop production, processing capacity, and export readiness sat in silos.
My Role
I carried out a full regional agro-industrial diagnostic built on data integration and sector research.
-
Reviewed existing studies and used them as inputs for a new, unified analytical framework.
-
Collected and cleaned datasets on production, processing industries, and export flows.
-
Analysed trends to identify high-potential value-added products.
-
Created clear visualisations that highlighted competitive strengths and development gaps.
-
Delivered a technical report summarising strategic implications for policymakers and investors.
Competitive Advantage
-
Gave regional authorities a clear, data-based roadmap for agro-industrial growth.
-
Highlighted value-added opportunities that can drive job creation and investment.
-
Strengthened the region’s competitive position through a more integrated understanding of its sector dynamics.
